When you don't feel like yourself anymore

Sometimes the hardest part isn't knowing what's wrong. It's knowing you've changed.

There comes a moment for many women when they quietly think:

"I don't recognise myself anymore."

You might still be going to work, looking after everyone else, smiling in meetings, and ticking off your to-do list. From the outside, life appears perfectly normal.

But inside, something feels different.

You feel exhausted, even after a full night's sleep.

The things you used to enjoy no longer excite you.

Your patience is shorter.

Your confidence has disappeared.

You feel disconnected from yourself, and you can't quite explain why.

If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

And more importantly, you're not broken.

Change doesn't always arrive with a single event

Sometimes it follows something obvious, like a cancer diagnosis, redundancy, divorce, menopause or losing someone you love.

Other times, it builds quietly over months or even years.

Chronic stress.

A toxic workplace.

Always putting everyone else first.

Living in survival mode for so long that your nervous system no longer remembers what calm feels like.

Eventually your mind and body begin asking you to slow down.

Not because you've failed.

Because you've been carrying too much for too long.

We become experts at coping

Many of us have spent years being the reliable one.

The strong one.

The one who keeps going.

We become so good at coping that we stop noticing how much we're sacrificing along the way.

We ignore the tension in our shoulders.

We brush off the anxiety.

We tell ourselves we'll rest next week.

Then next month.

Then after the next project.

Until one day, we realise we've drifted away from the person we used to be.

Healing isn't about becoming someone new

One of the biggest misconceptions about personal growth is that we have to reinvent ourselves.

I don't believe that's true.

I believe healing is about returning to ourselves.

Peeling away the layers of stress, fear, expectation and survival until we reconnect with the person who has been there all along.

The calm.

The confidence.

The joy.

The peace.

They're rarely gone.

They've simply been buried beneath everything you've been carrying.

Small steps matter

You don't need to change your whole life overnight.

Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as:

• Taking five slow breaths before opening your laptop.

• Spending ten minutes outside without your phone.

• Saying "no" without feeling guilty.

• Asking for support.

• Giving yourself permission to rest.

Small actions, repeated consistently, create lasting change.

A gentle reminder

If you don't feel like yourself right now, this doesn't have to be your forever.

Life has seasons.

Some are about achievement.

Others are about healing.

Both are equally valuable.

Perhaps this season isn't asking you to push harder.

Perhaps it's inviting you to pause, listen, and reconnect with the person you've always been beneath the noise.

And maybe that's where your next chapter begins.
